About the Opportunity

Contentful is seeking an experienced and dynamic Director of Business Development to lead our Business Development Representative (BDR) function based in London. The ideal candidate will have a strong track record of managing and scaling BDR teams, driving revenue growth, and collaborating cross-functionally to achieve company goals. This role requires a strategic thinker with exceptional leadership skills and a deep understanding of the sales development process.

What to expect?

  • Lead and manage the BDR team to achieve and exceed sales targets and KPIs.
  • Develop and implement strategies to scale the BDR function, including hiring, training, and performance management.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Marketing, and Product teams to align business development efforts with company objectives.
  • Drive pipeline generation through effective prospecting, lead qualification, and nurturing.
  • Analyze and report on key metrics and performance data to optimize the BDR process and identify areas for improvement.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and development within the BDR team.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices to ensure the BDR team remains competitive and effective.
  • Represent Contentful at industry events and conferences to build relationships and generate business opportunities.

What you need to be successful

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in business development, sales, or a related role, with at least 3 years in a leadership position managing BDR functions.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing and scaling BDR teams in a SaaS or technology environment.
  • Strong understanding of the sales development process and best practices.
  • Excellent leadership, coaching, and mentoring skills.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to analyze data and make data-driven decisions.
  • Highly motivated, goal-oriented, and a strategic thinker.
  • Experience with CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce) and sales engagement tools.
  • Experience of business development in multiple industries and countries across EMEA a distinct advantage
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing and/or MBA is a plus
