The Team & Role:
- This role reports to the COO and will own all aspects of legal strategy, including commercial, product & privacy, corporate, and employment law. In addition to providing hands-on legal support in a few core domains, this role will own the legal budget, optimize resource allocation, and manage outside counsel relationships when specialized legal expertise is required.
What you’ll do day-to-day:
- Advising the CEO, COO, and leadership team on legal matters
- Draft, review, and negotiate terms for complex enterprise deals and partnership contracts
- Provide guidance on data privacy and protection issues, ensuring products and services adhere to relevant regulations
- Manage corporate legal matters, including equity transactions and governance matters
- Advise on employment-related matters, including HR policies, employment agreements, and compliance with employment laws
- Collaborate cross-functionally with teams across the organization, providing legal insights to support strategic initiatives and product development
About you:
- Minimum 7 years of legal experience, including 3+ years at law firms and 3+ years in-house at technology companies (strong preference for SaaS or B2B businesses)
- Exceptional judgment and integrity
- Excellent business acumen: You’re comfortable thinking through legal issues from a business lens and weighing trade-offs between business agility & legal risk
- Adept at working in a fast-paced environment: You’re comfortable making quick decisions in the face of ambiguity, uncertainty, and imperfect information
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills: You can translate complex legal matters into clear and concise recommendations for cross-functional partners
- Strong sense of initiative & ownership: You’re proactive at spotting issues & finding solutions; you’re comfortable working autonomously and prioritizing the most high-impact workstreams
- Strong growth mindset: You’re adaptable, flexible, curious about learning new things, and always looking to develop your skills and improve the way things are done
- Deep expertise in tech-related legal matters, including SaaS agreements and data privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA, etc.)
- Experience with managing external counsel
- JD degree from an accredited law school and licensed to practice in California

For roles based in San Francisco, CA, the base salary hiring range for this position is $247,000 - $260,000. Compensation offered will be determined by factors such as location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This role will also be eligible for equity and benefits.
This role is not eligible for 100% remote work.
