About Kong
Kong was founded by Augusto “Aghi” Marietti and Marco Palladino, who first started a company called Mashape in 2009 while in Milan, Italy. They moved to San Francisco in the early 2010s to pursue their vision of an API marketplace, building Mashape into a platform that powered tens of thousands of APIs and hundreds of thousands of developers. From the API runtime they had built for Mashape, they open‑sourced the Kong API Gateway in 2015, which quickly became the world’s most adopted API gateway and the #1 API project on GitHub.
Over time, Kong evolved from a single open source gateway into a full API management platform that now includes Kong Enterprise Gateway, the Konnect SaaS platform, Kong Insomnia, Kong’s AI Gateway and capabilities, and managed gateways across major public clouds. Kong’s product suites is used by customers in different industries (like finance, banking, eCommerce, airlines, etc.) to build and operate their API infrastructure
